Traditional Methods, Modern Café Experience
How We Bake — From Organic Grain to Fresh-Made Pastry
Every item on our menu begins with organic, freshly milled grains and traditional French technique — and you can watch it all come together through our open kitchen. Our bakers shape sourdough by hand and laminate croissants layer by layer using quality butter and time-honoured methods. Our menu features a wide range of artisanal pastries, crusty sourdough breads, and both sweet and savoury baked goods, all produced from scratch daily. During the Advent season, a unique specialty pastry is crafted for each day of December — a beloved Qualicum Beach tradition. Our baked goods are also available at local farmers markets and pop-up events across central Vancouver Island.

Common Questions About Our Bakery Service
What to Know When Visiting L’îlette Café & Bakery
What baked goods does L'îlette make, and are they made fresh daily?
Our bakers start early every day we're open, producing everything from scratch — signature sourdough loaves, classic croissants, sweet and savoury pastries, and seasonal specialties. Nothing is pre-made or brought in. What you're getting when you walk through our door is as fresh as it gets.
Why does L'îlette use freshly milled, organic grains instead of standard flour?
Freshly milled grains retain natural oils, flavour, and nutrients that disappear quickly after milling. Using them means our sourdough and pastries have a depth of flavour and texture you simply can't get from a bag of commodity flour. It costs more and takes more effort — but that's the point. It's one of the things that makes the difference genuinely noticeable.
Can I pre-order sourdough or other baked goods?
Yes, and we encourage it — especially for sourdough. Our breads are made in batches and popular varieties can sell out, particularly on weekends. You can pre-order online through our website or by calling the café directly. It's the easiest way to make sure what you want is waiting for you.
Do you offer specialty or seasonal baked goods throughout the year?
Yes. Our menu rotates with the seasons, and we put a lot of intention into what we feature and when. The most well-known example is our Advent pastry program — a different specialty pastry each day throughout the Advent season — but seasonal offerings are a regular part of how we bake year-round. Follow us on Instagram @lilette.local to stay in the loop.
What communities does L'îlette serve?
Our café is in Qualicum Beach, but we regularly serve guests from across the region — Parksville, Coombs, Errington, Bowser, Qualicum Bay, Nanoose Bay, Nanaimo, and Lantzville. We also bring our baking to local farmers markets and pop-up events across central Vancouver Island, so there are more ways to find us than just visiting the café.
